Halloween Without the Sugar High?

Halloween is the best holiday of the year! I love seeing the kids in all their awesome costumes! But in the age of childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes, I like to do what I can to put a little less sugar out into the world (and in my house).

So, the past few years I have started giving out less candy. I buy a small bag of candy, but then I mostly give out other items like (store bought) snack bags and (for the little ones) small toys.

Here’s what I’m giving out this year:

-Halloween tattoos and zombie finger bubbles (from Oriental Trading). In the past I have also given tiny glow- in- the- dark lizards and squishy eyeballs.

-Wikki Stix crafts- https://www.wikkistix.com/product/trick-or-treat-pak/, but I get them a little cheaper on Amazon.

-Halloween pretzel packs

-Animal Cracker packs

-Fruit snack packs- Welch’s has Halloween size and they are at least made with some fruit puree. I got them at Wegmans.

I’m not sure about your kids, but after the fun of collecting is over, my son only seems to care or remember about the candy for about 2 days anyway. Then it just sits in the cabinet or my husband and I end up eating it --which we really don’t need.

Wanna join me in promoting a healthier Halloween?
